The three items that I chose all relate to music, due to the impact music has had in my life.
The first item I chose was for my past and it was the piano. I still play the piano but that's not really the point here. the piano is the first interment that I learned how to play, and threw out learning to play it learned to read sheet music at the same time. this period of my life spanning from the time I was about four years old to some where around high school. my grandmother used to tell me "you had to play before you can play" using playtime as a reason to get me to study the piano. I think that this is a good metaphor and item for my past because it to me represents all the things that I learned as a child. how I was forced to work hard at it and I believe this prepared me for life in different ways. one of the most important things I take away from it besides my ability to learn new and complex things is to never give up. I'm sure music will be in my life to the end and i wont give up on it or any other aspect of my life.
the next item i chose was the guitar.
the guitar I used to symbolize my present state. it is my instrument of choice and has been for a while. I have been to 11 different country's and have brought a guitar to everyone of them. it is important to me to use as a form of expression weather it is a good day full of joy or a bad day filled with anger, rage, or sadness it is there for me. the guitar has become an extension of myself and there for it represents me at the current state in my life. it is difficult to learn at first but with every struggle there is hope. I am constantly learning and studying others work and ever growing my knowledge. much like I do in college.
the last item that i chose is a conducting baton.
I used the conductors wand as a metaphor for the future. although I do not have aspirations of becoming a conductor in order to be one you must be greatly skilled in multiple forms of music and instruments. know how music is structured and when and why things happen when they do. this to me shows not only knowledge but also control. the symphony would fall apart without the role of a conductor. so I see this as an item for my future because it represents desirer to become great at something or evolve and receive a graduate degree. it could also represent control weather its in a work setting or in a family setting. teach your family well and lead others the same way that you would desirer to be lead. inside of every great leader there is a great follower.
